About 1/3 of the area of the municipality is located on the territory of the Narwiański National Park while the rest is situated in its lagging. Thanks to extensive stretches of forests, the north-east part of the municipality forms a protective belt of Białystok. The main source of livelihood and incomes of the inhabitants is farming; however, due to its location in the protective zone tourism has a chance to become the second important direction of development. The area of the municipality of Turośń Kościelna possesses favourable natural advantages for the growth of tourism. The relief has an undulating and hilly character and comes down towards the valley of the Narew River with a distinctive slope. The constantly waterlogged peat bogs are the place of existence of over 150 bird species. The forests, which occupy over 25% of the territory and are abound in undergrowth, as well as the total lack of industry objects cause that the degree of air pollution with gases is minimal. In order to preserve all those wonderful natural values the authorities of the municipality take keen interests in the issue of ecology and connected with it infrastructure. Today the villages of Turośń Kościelna, Turośń Dolna, Iwanówka, Juraszki i Pomigacze possesses the sewage system of total length of 22.2km, with 412 properties connected to the mains. Till the year 2015 the local authorities are going to have also the remaining 28 villages connected. In 2004 the process of thermal modernisation of the municipality buildings which serve all its inhabitants has been initiated for example in the primary schools in Niewodnica Kościelna, Tołcze, Czaczki Małe, Turośń Kościelna, in the building of the municipality as well as in the health centre in Turośń Kościelna. The renovation of the primary school building in Turośń Dolna is also planned. The municipality of Turośń Kościelna is also interested in solving of the waste problem: since 1999 there has been a selective waste collection organised in 34 specially prepared spots with 67 containers, where glass, plastic and paper are gathered. The involvement of the municipality in the ecological issues was notices by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management: in the year 2001 the municipality received a prize and a distinction in the 2nd edition of NFOŚiGW competition for ‘The best solution for the water and sewage management system on rural areas’. The existence of the numerous tourist routes creates perfect opportunities for hiking, cycling and canoeing which give tourists a chance to get to know nature better and rest surrounded by it. Among the old park trees of the former nobleman’s manor in Turośń one can find late baroque hunting manor dating back to the turn of the 60s and 70s of the 18th century. Its unusual style allows to assume that it is rather a garden pavilion that a forest residence for hunters. However, the estates of Turośń used to be rich in extensive forest areas and many hunting parties would set off from this place in order to search for big game. The building, which was thoroughly renovated after the war, is a precious historic monument possessing elements characteristic for the style of late baroque. Today, it houses a registry office and a local cultural centre. One of Podlasie historic monuments of Orthodox art is a wooden Orthodox church of St. Mikołaj in Topilcu from 17th century. The building is surrounded by a wall made from field stones, as well as a nearby cemetery. Until the II World War a miraculous icon of St. Mikołaj was kept and worshiped here by the local people. Unfortunately, the painting disappeared during the war.

Near the village of Topilec the river of Czaplinianka, which supplies big fish-breeding ponds in water, flows into the Narew. The fish-farm situated nearby runs a fish-frying restaurant and offers good fishing point.

Other historic buildings:

  • Trinity Church in Turośń Kościelna

  • St. Antony of Padua Church in Niewodnica Kościelna

  • Graeco-Catholic chapel of St. Barbara from the end of the 18th century in the village of Baciuty

  • a medieval burial ground, a windmill and monument boulders in Bojary

  • the remains of a park and farm from 19th century in Markowszczyzna

One of the investment achievements of the municipality connected with education is the completion of a secondary school building, which was put into service in 1999. The numerous territorial investments aimed at providing all the necessary media to the properties have been employed to raise the standard of life of the local population. The positive outcome of those activities has been confirmed by the fact that many fans of residential housing more and more often buy plots of land here and build detached houses.
